Week 5:

In class:

Tonight we will work on the very important process of revising sketches. After our group discussion of your submissions, you'll begin revising one sketch in thumbnail form.

We will revisit the aspects of visual weight, balance, and symmetry vs. asymmetry. You'll experiment in color on at least one sketch.

Agenda:

1. Review sketches for final project- decide on best to revise for final project

2. In class exercise: revise one or more of your three thumbnail sketches, paying special attention to balance and visual weight. 

3. In class: experiment with visual weight and mixed media techniques. (ie: combine drawing materials like graphite, pen, or colored pencils with watercolor, inks, or gouache)

Revise and polish one of this week's sketches for consideration.

next week:

We will re-examine the landscapes and settings of natural history illustration and you will begin sketching out ideas to provide this type of context for your final project.
